Costs Drafting and Bills of Costs
Specialist costs drafting for solicitors, including bills of costs, N260 schedules, Precedent S electronic bills and detailed assessment documents.
Mackenzie Costs provides specialist costs drafting and bills of costs services for solicitors across England and Wales. Led by Costs Lawyer William Mackenzie, who has worked in costs law since 2009 and is listed as a Legal 500 Next Generation Partner, we act on both paying and receiving party matters from inception through to detailed assessment and advocacy.
What We Draft
We prepare formal bills of costs, schedules of costs, N260 statements, Precedent S electronic bills and supporting documents for assessment. The work is prepared by a specialist costs lawyer with attention to recoverability, chronology, hourly rates, disbursements, VAT, interest and the correct procedural format.
When Solicitors Instruct Us
Solicitors usually instruct us after judgment, settlement or an order for costs, where the receiving party needs a compliant bill served quickly and accurately. We also assist where a bill needs review before service, where a draft bill has been challenged, or where a paying party needs a technical analysis of the sums claimed.
Why It Matters
A bill of costs is not just an arithmetic exercise. Poor phasing, vague narratives, unsupported disbursements or weak treatment of proportionality can reduce recovery. A properly prepared bill gives the receiving party a stronger platform for negotiation and detailed assessment.
